Ariens ST24LE Deluxe 24 Snow Blower Review

The Ariens company has been in the market for a long long time, 1933 to be exact, which is not an easy feat. They are very famous for their snow blowers, lawn tractors, and zero-turn lawnmowers. Since Ariens is such an old company, one would expect them to get rusty with their work, but they have proven that "Old is Gold" is more than just a catchphrase.

Since this is a two-stage snow blower, the first stage is the auger which has the metal blades on the front that are used to crunch up the snow. And the second stage is the impeller, so what this does is help shoot all of the snow out of the housing faster and more powerfully, which is why these blowers are a bit expensive than the one-stage snow blowers.

As the snow comes out of the chute, there's a little vent that you can control for how far or short you want the snow to blow out. It also comes with a shovel, so if you have any jam-ups inside the chute, never stick your hand in there, instead use the shovel to scoop out any ice chunks, rocks, or anything else that's in there. It conveniently attaches to the snowplow.

There are two extra shear bolts provided. If you look back down inside the auger, which is the big blade in the front, there's a bolt on the right and a bolt on the left, so if you hit a rock or a log in your driveway, those shear bolts are meant to break off of the auger so it doesn't damage the auger blades, which is why you have extra shear bolts to replace if you hit something with your snow blower.

Advanced Handlebars

There are two handlebars to operate the snow blower and both of them have their different features. When you press down on the right handlebar, the impeller spins up and the churning process begins.

Depending on which direction your drive is going, the left handlebar initiates the movement of moving the machine forward or backward. When you push the left handle down to go forward or backward, you can let go of the right handlebar because the left one will keep it down, which is a nice feature. After all, squeezing it all the time will hurt your hand.

Speed Control

So, how do you get the snow blower to move forward and backward?

The speed can be adjusted by moving a control knob. On the panel, a small turtle and two hares represent slow and fast speeds, respectively.

Also, the snow blower has six forward speeds and two reverse speeds. So six forward speeds are ranging from slow turtle to fast hare and two reverse speeds. That is how the machine can be easily maneuvered. Since the gears are so easy to handle, there is no age factor needed to use this machine.

Automatic Steering

This feature makes turning the heavy snow blower incredibly easy. When this new feature was launched, many bad reviews were passed since at that time the machine had some issue regarding turning left or right but with the 2017 model, this problem was solved.

Automatic steering helps the snow blower change directions on its own whenever a turn is sensed. It automatically locks the inner wheel so you can guide the machine your way.

Chute Control

There is another lever for chute controlling just beside the speed adjustment panel. This lever is used to control the up and down movement of the chute. There are five options for changing the shooting mode.

The top setting shoots the snow the furthest, and as you increase the setting, the shoot vent moves down, resulting in the shortest throw. The throw base can be adjusted depending on where you're going or how far you want to throw the snow.

A bar is another chute control function that allows you to change the direction of the chute from left to right. You rotate the bar, which rotates the chute, so if you're going right, shoot to the right; if you're going left, shoot to the left, at an angle, or directly in front. You should oil the bar on a regular basis because you don't want to deal with a creaky direction changer if you have to rotate it manually.

Thick Tires

The Ariens ST24LE deluxe 24 has thick tires which measure 16-inches. Since they are well built, there is no chance of them slipping even once plus they give very decent friction so you don’t have to worry about losing/going out of your path. Even though the snow blower itself is a bit heavy, it is still recommended for steep driveways.

Steel skid shoes are pre-installed for an even better experience. You can change or adjust the reversible shoes as per your liking or depending on what surface you are using the snow blower.

Electrical start

Like most of the new upcoming two-stage snow blowers, the Ariens ST24LE deluxe 24 snow blower also comes equipped with an electrical start. The machine has a pull cord to start it, but if you prefer to use an electric cord, there is a plug that you can plugin and then press the small red button to start it.

Headlight

The main thing that distinguishes a deluxe model from the classic model is the headlight. It is a Halogen headlight and not LED, though the latter one is preferable, what we have here doesn’t disappoint either.
